Born
in Takamatsu, Japan, she received her first music lessons at the Yamaha Music
School and later on at the Yamaha Master Class. Ayako has participated in
numerous competitions and received prizes in 2000 at the Sydney International
Piano Competition, Australia and at the same year at the Hamamatsu International
Piano Competition, Japan. In
June 2002 Ayako won the first prize in the piano division of the 12th
International Tchaikovsky Competition held in Moscow, the first woman ever to
win this most prestigious prize. She has played with numerous orchestras and
