 Alexandros Myrat

Alexandros Myrat was born in Greece. He settled in Paris at an early age, where he studied conducting under Igor Markevich, Nadia Boulanger and Max Deutsch.

In 1976 he won the Gino Marinucci Competition and conducted the first performance of Darius Milhaud's "Oresteia". In 1977 he took up French nationality and has since conducted the most prestigious French orchestras. His career, mainly european, expanded in countries such as Belgium, Italy , Greece , Bulgaria, etc.  In 1984, he founded the Picardie Orchestra in France, which he directed till 1989, earning himself the reputation as interpreter of Mozart. He has made numeroues recordings for BBC Radio. He directed the Edinbourgh Youth Orchestra for three consecutive years and in 1994 he was awarded the "best orchestra" and "best recording" prizes at the 1994 International Vienna Competition.

He has been the artistic director and permanent conductor of Kamerata-Friends of Music Orchestra since its very beginning in 1991. His repertoire ranges from greek, french to world first performances, consisting of works by composers such as Wychnegradsky, Obouhov, Gaussin, Bainbridge, Westbrook, Mikroutsikos, Koumentakis, Koukos, Travlos as well as the work of John Tavener's "Agraphon" composed for La Camerata.

He has also taken part in several International Festivals such as the Ravenna, Wallonie, Edinbourgh, Athens nd Patras Festival. In 1999 he was the artistic director of the Patras International Festival.

Alexandros Myrat  will be offering a series of Masterclasses

THE CHOPIN SOCIETY OF HONG KONG would like to invite keyboard, string and other musicians to participate in a new Series of Masterclasses presented as part of The Lady Kadoorie Master Teachers Series.

Conductor A. Myrat will run these series and will give masterclasses on the playing of small group ensembles, chamber groups or orchestras. This is a most innovative series of masterclasses, which brings to bear Maestro Myrat�s extensive experience as a symphonic, chamber, and operatic orchestra conductor to the specific problems, techniques and issues of small ensemble playing. The Chopin Society of Hong Kong , under the sponsorship of Lady Kadoorie is planning to bring Maestro Myrat on a frequent and regular basis to Hong Kong in order to ensure the  continuity of this project and to help establish high quality small ensemble groups in Hong Kong.

Maestro Myrat will be auditioning for students and other musicians to form chamber groups and to start working with them. Maestro Myrat will be working on this project in Hong Kong on: 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th of October 2002.

Musicians presenting themselves for audition should be prepared to play a short selection of about 30 minutes in total from the following composers 

Violinists, their choice of repertoire from: Bach (Compulsory) ; Mozart (compulsory); Romantic repertoire of their choice

Violists, their choice of repertoire from: Bach (Compulsory); Classical composer (Compulsory); Romantic repertoire of their choice

Cellists , their choice of repertoire from:  Bach (Compulsory); Haydn (Compulsory); Romantic repertoire of their choice

 Musicians playing other instruments than the ones mentioned above should be prepared to play a repertoire of their choice of about 30 minutes.

 Masterclasses and workshops will be free of charge.
